Byron Katie is the author of Loving What Is, and her core insight is simple: it’s not situations that cause our suffering, it’s the thoughts we believe about the situations. As she puts it: “I discovered that when I believed my thoughts I suffered, but when I didn’t believe them I didn’t suffer […]” She goes further to suggest, “suffering is optional.” That got my attention!
